![]() ![]() ![]() I love the way that they reference the visual style of 19C antiquarian photography… the layering of materials, light and space, and so richly textured. The fashion shoot is often described as a kind of dream…and these pictures are perfect for that. It’s unbelievable today, but back then at the end of the 1970s, large parts of Versailles were derelict…Turbeville secured an access-all-areas pass and made images of forgotten rooms, ancient parquet, shuttered windows, cloudy mirrors, and dust sheets…sometimes there are fashion models arranged in the space… ![]() Here are some page-spreads from Deborah Turbeville’s lovely book of photographs of Versailles. ![]()
